More than 8,000 without power as storm sweeps across metro Denver

More than 8,000 metro Denver customers were without power Tuesday night as high winds, rain and snow swept across the Front Range.

Wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph were reported across the metro as of 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

    Xcel Energy was responding to 33 outages impacting nearly 5,000 people, including in Arvada, Lakewood, Aurora, Westminster and Thornton, according to the company’s outage map.

    CORE Electric Cooperative reported outages impacting 1,811 people in Douglas County, 1,125 people in Elbert County and around 400 people in both Arapahoe and Adams counties.
