A WALMART shopper berated the retailer after being stopped in his tracks while trying to pay for his groceries at the self-checkout.
The customer was so bewildered by what played out in store that he decided to abandon his items and walked out.
Roger claimed he was subject to an inspection after using Walmart’s scan-and-go function.
But, he claimed a message popped up on his phone ordering him to wait for an associate, according to an X thread.
Roger also told how a pop-up appeared on the self-checkout register, ordering him to submit his order.
But, he couldn’t and tried to restart the Walmart app on his cell phone.
Again, Roger encountered problems.
“Restarting the app did nothing,” he lamented.
“Restarting my phone put me back to the beginning with an empty cart.”
Roger sought help but again wasn’t satisfied with what happened.
He claimed a Walmart staffer just stared at him, infuriating him even more.
“I dumped out all of my bags right there on the self-checkout floor and left,” he said.
Roger claimed Walmart+ – the service which offers scan and go is not worth it.
Shoppers must fork out around $98 for a yearly subscription.
In his tirade, he blasted the state of the Walmart app and vowed that he wouldn’t return to the location.
A Walmart spokesperson responded to the shopper’s tirade.
What is Walmart's Scan and Go?
Walmart's Scan and Go was made to save time for shoppers
Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay, and leave without waiting in long checkout lines.
The retailer describes the new system to be done in a few easy steps:
Customers first need to have the Walmart app downloaded on their phones with their location access enabled. On the Store Mode landing page, shoppers must click the Scan and Go option. Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop. At the end, they’ll be prompted to view the cart to make sure the quantity on the app matches the ones in their carts. Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk. They’ll be prompted to scan the provided QR code at the register and confirm their payment method. Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without worry.“Care to give us details on what happened? If you’d like, would you please send us a DM with more information?” they said.
It’s unclear if Roger sent a direct message airing his grievances.
Roger isn’t the only shopper who has had issues when it comes to scan and go.
Scan and go allows shoppers to scan items using their cell phones, but they must go to a self-checkout station to complete their transactions.
This is unlike other retailers which allow customers to pay for their shopping via their cell phone.
Walmart stores have dedicated self-checkout stations for scan and go users, but this has irked some customers.
Some have claimed on X that the retailer is punishing those who don’t pay for the service.
SCAN AND GO WOE
Shoppers have also said that scanning items by phone is more tedious than using a self-checkout machine.
Customers have claimed that the scan and go service has been glitchy, forcing them to rescan all of their groceries.
Shoppers have also lashed out at the retailer after being subject to receipt checks.
One customer, known only as Dan, claimed he was asked to show his receipt twice.
“I am not comfortable with that,” he said on X.
While Walmart’s scan-and-go tool appears divisive, Sam’s Club service has been hailed.
Sam’s Club allows shoppers to use scan and go, while Costco does not.
And, shoppers have spotted the difference and have said the scan and go function at Sam’s Club is a “real advantage.”
Scores of Costco customers have called on the retailer to roll out the service.
