Nationwide protests of Tesla arrived in North County Saturday.
Demonstrators have been gathering outside Tesla stores across the U.S. to show their opposition to the firm’s CEO, Elon Musk, and his work to slash government spending on behalf of President Donald Trump.
The areas targeted for cuts are far ranging, touching the Social Security Administration, the IRS, FAA, National Institutes of Health, the Agency for International Development and more.
In addition, the Associated Press reported that agencies across the federal government soon will have leases canceled, including the IRS, the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Democratic Club of Carlsbad/Oceanside hosted Saturday’s protest, outside Encinitas’ Tesla dealership, “to bring attention to the danger that the Trump/Musk agenda poses,” members said in a news release.
Critics of Trump and Musk hope to alert Tesla buyers of their concerns while hitting the bottom line of the electric car company, the world’s most valuable automaker.
The Tesla Takedown website listed dozens of events across the U.S. and even in Canada and the U.K. this weekend. Other Southern California protests were set for Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Cathedral City, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Pasadena and Santa Monica.
The site urges viewers to “Sell Your Teslas” and “Dump Your Stock.”
