A Promising Controller With Too Many Flaws
buy from amazonThe BSP D8 PRO RGB is a versatile game controller designed for mobile gaming enthusiasts, supporting multiple platforms including Switch, Android, iPhone, iPad, PC, PS3, and PS4. Manufactured in China, it features advanced Hall rocker and Hall trigger technology, along with macro programming capabilities. Additionally, the BSP D8 PRO RGB enables cloud gaming and streaming, allowing users to enjoy popular games on PC, Xbox, and PS consoles. It connects directly to ShootingPlus and GamepadSpace for seamless gamepad mapping. The controller includes a micro switch cross key that can be easily replaced and offers three adaptive modes (FPS, normal, racing) for tailored gameplay.
Designed to accommodate mobile phones and tablets with a length adjustment ranging from 128 to 289mm, the BSP D8 PRO RGB boasts impressive battery life with a capacity of 400mAh. Notably, it features two mappable buttons near the back triggers, similar to the mappable paddles found on many gaming controllers, which can be configured on the fly without the need for additional software. Furthermore, the controller allows for a one-click switch between joystick linear algorithms, enhancing its versatility for different gaming styles.
Unboxing and Setup
Inside the box, you will find the controller itself, a USB-C cable, a D-pad cover plate, a booklet, and two replacement rubber pads. After unboxing, I plugged the device in until the indicator light on the unit signaled that it was fully charged. While it was charging, I tested a variety of devices for fitment. The device opens wide enough to accommodate a full-size 12.9″ iPad Pro. While playing in this configuration may feel awkward, it’s certainly possible. That being said, it will fit all devices up to this size without issue. I was unable to get an iPhone 12 mini to fit, which seems to be the cutoff for sizing. The joysticks can be removed, presumably for easy replacement; however, I could not find any replacements online or in the box.
Usage
Usage is where things get a bit complicated. I have tested many controllers, and this one is quite unique. I was able to get it to work for two games of Call of Duty Mobile (CODM) on my iPad without any issues. However, with all other devices I tested, it either wouldn’t connect or wouldn’t respond in-game. I tested it with a PS4, PS5, iPhone 16 Pro Max, REDMAGIC tablet, iPad Mini 7, and iPad Pro 12.9. After my two games of CODM, the controller caused my avatar in-game to spin around in circles endlessly. No amount of unpairing and repairing or setting changes could resolve this issue across different devices. Therefore, I can’t provide the best assessment on its overall usage.
That said, I will share my experience with the two games I played—one with my iPad Pro inside the unit and the other handheld. The rubber thumb pads where your thumbs rest are a bit too small for my liking, but they could be perfect for those with smaller hands. I found myself accidentally knocking them off the actual sticks. It would be nice to see some magnets here to hold them in place, as well as larger sizes. Despite this, the device performed well with my favorite AAA FPS game, Call of Duty Mobile, and it charged quickly. However, beyond those two uses, I struggled to get it to work correctly, making it tough for me to provide a more thorough opinion. The device has great potential if it worked as intended, but personally, I would prefer larger thumb pads with magnets to keep them secure.
Pricing
The BSP D8 Pro can be found for $54.99 on Amazon.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the BSP D8 PRO RGB Tablet Controller offers a compelling package for mobile gaming enthusiasts, featuring cross-platform compatibility, advanced technology, and customizable settings that cater to various gaming preferences. Its standout features, such as the Hall rocker technology, adjustable RGB lighting, and six-axis gyroscope, promise an immersive experience.
However, the controller’s inconsistent performance across different devices raises concerns about its reliability, particularly regarding connectivity and responsiveness. While it delivered satisfactory gameplay for Call of Duty Mobile for 2 games, the difficulties encountered with hinder a comprehensive evaluation of its usability. It doesn’t live up to its promises. Additionally, the smaller thumb pads may not suit all users, suggesting room for ergonomic improvements.
Ultimately, while the BSP D8 PRO RGB has great potential and innovative features, prospective buyers should weigh the reported usage challenges against its numerous benefits before making a decision. With further refinement, this controller could truly stand out in the competitive mobile gaming market. I wouldn’t recommend this controller until the issues are resolved.
