Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast and Ventura County Beaches were placed under an updated high surf advisory by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 7:45 a.m. The advisory is valid from 9 a.m. until Friday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m.
The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA says to prepare for, “Large breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet in Santa Barbara County, 6 to 9 feet in Ventura County, 5 to 8 feet in Los Angeles County with dangerous rip currents.”
“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
