Jeremiah Fears helped put Oklahoma “over the top” of the NCAA Tournament bubble by carrying the Sooners to an 81-75 win over Georgia in the opening round of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday night.
The sensational Fears was the game’s high scorer. Fears had 29 points, making 8-of-16 field-goal attempts, including 4 3-pointers, and adding 9 at the free-throw line. Teammates Jalon Moore (14 points) and Mohamed Wague (12) joined him in double figures.

He had the rough luck of missing his last 5 shots after a 3-point at the 16:11 mark of the 2nd half. Asa Newell had a double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Blue Cain added 17 points.
It was a back-and-forth battle much of the need between the 11-seed Bulldogs and 14-seed Sooners. There were 6 ties and 10 lead changes. Oklahoma led for 18:29 of game time. Georgia led for 17:58, with UGA’s last lead coming at the 7:49 mark of the 2nd half (64-62).
Mike White’s Bulldogs won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding OU 38-32. UGA was also slightly more productive in the paint 28-24. The Sooners made more trips to the free-throw line and took advantage, going 17-of-25 to Georgia’s 9-of-16. Oklahoma edged Georgia in 3-point production, making 12-of-25 to the Dawgs’ 10-of-28.
Wednesday night before tipoff, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi wrote, “Sooners are a good bet regardless, but this game puts them over the top.” Oklahoma now has 20 wins on its Big Dance resume as it advances in the SEC Tournament to face No. 6-seed Kentucky in the nightcap.
