SAM Darnold has found his next football team.
The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with free agent quarterback Sam Darnold.
Seven years after being drafted into the NFL, Darnold broke out in a big way in his first year with the Minnesota Vikings.
Darnold was drafted with the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, but struggled to make an impact there.
In three seasons he passed for 8,097 yards with 45 touchdowns and 39 interceptions.
The Jets traded him to the Carolina Panthers after three seasons and he served as their starter for two years.
Darnold didn’t show many flashes as the Panthers quarterback though, and eventually landed with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 as their backup quarterback.
He moved to the Minnesota Vikings last season to serve as the backup to rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy.
However, a preseason knee injury forced Darnold into the starting role, and he surprised everyone with how effective he was.
Darnold passed for 4,319 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
He was named to his first Pro Bowl and led the Vikings to a 14-13 record and a playoff berth.
That strong season culminated in Darnold earning a massive contract with the Seattle Seahawks.
On Monday, he agreed to a three-year, $100 million deal to take the place of Geno Smith.
The Seahawks traded Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday and were favored to sign Darnold ever since.
By replacing Smith with Darnold, the Seahawks now have a quarterback who is seven years younger than their previous one.
His $30 million plus annual contract will likely end up being less than what Smith gets on an extension with the Raiders.
