2025 NCAA Division I Last Chance Meets – March 9th
Several last chance meets were held on Sunday as the men looked to improve upon their chances of making NCAAs now that conferences are over. Remember that the men’s meet usually invites around 30 swimmers per event, though we won’t know the exact cutline until Wednesday.
Highlighting the last chance meet at Minnesota was Chris Morris of Wisconsin as he swam to a 1:41.78 in the 200 IM to become the #20 ranked performer in the NCAA this season. That also is well below the 1:43.14 it took to make the meet a year ago. It also marked a personal best for Morris as he entered the weekend with a best time of a 1:43.09 that he swam just a week ago to finish 11th at the Big Ten Championships.
The Badgers also had another swimmer likely earn an NCAA invite as Yoav Romano swam to a 4:13.37 in the 500 free. That places him at #24 in the NCAA this season and under the 4:14.36 it took to make the meet a year ago. The freshman dropped almost three seconds off his personal best of a 4:16.06 that he swam last week at the Big Ten Championships for 11th.
At the Ohio State last chance meet, Charlie Clark swam to a season best of a 14:47.44 to sit tied for 21st in the NCAA this season. Clark has a lifetime best of a 14:35.38 from 2022 NCAAs but had not been below 14:50 this season as he swam a 14:56.75 for 10th at Big Tens. It took a 14:53.84 to make NCAAs last year.
Also moving up the rankings in the 1650 free was Minnesota’s Joey Tepper as he swam to a 14:48.01, the 24th fastest time in the NCAA this season. Tepper looks to make his first NCAAs with Minnesota after transferring from Tennessee this offseason.
