Kirk Herbstreit responds to news of Eddie George hire at Bowling Green

Kirk Herbstreit is excited to see his old teammate land an FBS head coaching job.

The Toledo Blade broke the news Sunday morning that Eddie George has agreed to become the new head coach at Bowling Green. George spent the past 4 seasons as head coach at FCS program Tennessee State, his first coaching job. The Bowling Green job came open when Scot Loeffler departed after 6 seasons to join the Philadelphia Eagles’ staff as quarterbacks coach.

    After hearing the news of George’s hiring, Herbstreit took to social media to share his thoughts. He wished George good luck and praised Bowling Green’s decision.

    Herbstreit and George had overlapping Ohio State careers and were teammates for 2 seasons (1992 & ’93). Herbstreit was a Buckeye quarterback from 1989-93. George, a Heisman Trophy-winning running back, played for OSU from 1992-95. Both played during John Cooper’s tenure in Columbus (1988-2000).

    Herbstreit and George went down different paths. Herbstreit became a broadcaster after his playing days, landing with ESPN in 1995 and joining College GameDay the following year. George played in the NFL with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans (1996-2003) and Dallas Cowboys (2004).
