The Ohio Turnpike Commission is warning drivers about a text scam that is sweeping the nation.
Scammers send texts that purport to come from a state entity. The texts commonly tell drivers that they have unpaid turnpike tolls and ask that people click a link to make payments. The OTC states that if anyone receives a text message claiming they have a toll payment due to be aware that this is likely part of an ongoing, nationwide texting scam.
The Ohio Turnpike does not send text messages requesting payment for unpaid tolls. Ohio Turnpike officials will send up to three invoices by U.S. Mail to collect unpaid tolls.
