Marchand’s report also says the new contract will allow Smith to talk more about politics in the future. Smith has been loosely linked with a potential run for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in 2028 and recently said he believes he could win if he chose to run.
While Smith, 57, will continue to appear daily on First Take, other appearances on shows such as NBA Countdown and Monday Night Football Football will be more limited, per the report.
Per The Athletic, Smith’s previous annual salary at ESPN was $12 million.
