THE Kansas City Chiefs are unlikely to re-sign safety Justin Reid before the new season, according to reports.
Reid joined the Chiefs from the Houston Texans back in 2022 and subsequently helped the team win two Super Bowl titles.
However, his time at Arrowhead Stadium could now be up.
NFL reporter Nate Taylor claimed earlier this week that Reid will likely be let go.
The 28-year-old’s contract expires this month and if the Chiefs decide against a new deal then he will become a free agent.
Reid had 87 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass break-ups last season so would be a strong asset for most NFL teams should he move away.
Despite the rumours, Reid appeared to suggest that he had not heard any news from the Chiefs regarding a departure.
He took to X to write: “Well that’s news…”
Chiefs coach Andy Reid received a huge boost earlier this week when Travis Kelce announced that he will play another season.
The tight end contemplated retirement following last month’s Super Bowl defeat.
But he now aims to contribute more to the team in the upcoming season.
On Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce said: “I f***ing love playing the game of football.
“I still feel like I can play at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year
“I don’t think it was my best outing.
“I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them.”
