TRAVIS Kelce discussed his reason to not retire after the Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 35-year-old had contemplated retirement from the NFL following a career-worst season in 2024.
Last week, Kelce confirmed he would return for a 13th NFL season.
On Wednesday, he appeared alongside his brother Jason Kelce on their New Heights podcast and spoke about his goal to contribute more to the Chiefs than he did in the 2024 campaign.
“I f***ing love playing the game of football,” Kelce said in an eight-word message.
“I still feel like I can play at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year,” he then added.
“I don’t think it was my best outing.
“I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them.”
Kelce is coming off a regular season in which he recorded the fewest receiving yards (823), touchdowns (3), and yards per reception (8.5) of his career, excluding his first year in the league when he played one game.
Fans expressed their approval of Kelce’s reasoning for not hanging up his cleats just yet.
“Kelce’s locked in and ready for year 13,” one wrote.
“Travis is looking so GOOD and so relaxed. I’m wishing him a lucky 13th season! LFG!” another commented.
“1,000-yard season incoming,” a third added.
“Let’s go Travis!” a fourth stated.
Kelce recorded just one touchdown in three postseason games in 2024.
He admitted that the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl 59 was “probably the biggest factor” in his decision to play in 2025, calling the loss an “all-time low.”
During that game, Kelce posted just four receptions for 39 yards – the lowest amount in his five Super Bowl games.
He has played under Andy Reid since entering the league in 2013 and has won three Super Bowl titles.
Kelce also has 10 Pro Bowl nods on his incredible resume.
He signed a two-year, $34 million contract last April.
Kelce didn’t reveal on New Heights whether the upcoming season will be his last in the NFL.
“I feel like there’s a responsibility in me to play out the contract that I initially signed, to give Kansas City and the Chiefs organization everything that I got, and that’s what I’m gonna do, man.”
He then added, “I can’t whether or not this is going to be last year because I still love a lot of what I do for the city of Kansas City and the Chiefs organization.”
