STOCKTON — More security measures may be coming to Stockton City Hall.
Tuesday night, the city council will be voting on adding new, enhanced security measures to the existing building and council chambers, while also appointing a new security services manager.
The new measures would include purchasing a new walk-through detector and wand detectors, X-ray systems, anti-ballistic and bulletproof glass for the second-floor lobby, a roll-up curtain for the service window and more.
If approved, it will cost $186,000.
Mayor Christina Fugazi says this is not only to help council members stay safe during meetings but to also help keep the public out of harm's way.
"We have had no real security other than the individuals, the guards, that we have that are here," Mayor Fugazi said. "We figured, because of some incidences that have happened, that it's about time that we put security measures in place."
She said this all started when members of the public breached council chambers at a recent meeting.
The new security services manager sought would be a full-time position that will oversee the city's security contract, manage its employees and assess and coordinate security-related activities and services.
CBS Sacramento was told the city will be able to install these new security measures in the new city hall, which is set to open in October.
