These days, you have a lot of options when you're in the mood for a sub sandwich, but one of the fan-favorite spots is Jersey Mike's.
The first Jersey Mike's location opened in 1956, but the restaurant didn't start franchising until 1987. Today, the sub shop has nearly 3,000 locations. Devotees love their signature way of preparing cold sandwiches—known as “Mike’s way”—that involves arranging lettuce, onions, tomatoes, oil, vinegar, and spices in a certain consistent order.
Although the subs might all be made "Mike's way," there are many ways to build a Jersey's Mike's sandwich. Some of those options are on the menu—and some aren't. To help you build your best sandwich, we did some digging and pulled together a list of 15 of the best secret menu items at Jersey Mike's.

Does Jersey Mike’s Have a Secret Menu?
Like many other restaurant franchises, Jersey Mike’s does have a secret menu. Many of these secret menu items were invented by creative customers, enterprising staff members, or trend-setting social media influencers. Once shared online, secret menu items can quickly develop a cult following. Thanks to word of mouth, secret menu items can often become almost as popular as the official offerings.
Note that you’ll often find that the in-store Jersey Mike's menu is shorter and more streamlined than the online menu (we’re assuming that’s due to space limitations and wanting to keep the in-store displays from looking too crowded). So in that sense, some of the standard online menu options might also be considered a “secret.” But you can order any of the items from the online menu in the store as well.

15 Great Jersey Mike's Secret Menu Items and How to Order Them
If asking you to choose between beef and seafood is like asking you to pick your favorite child, you’ll be thrilled to know you can have both food groups in one filling hoagie. The Surf 'n Turf is a twist on the #9 Club Supreme. You skip the bacon (although personally I don’t think you should ever skip bacon in any situation), get provolone instead of Swiss cheese, and then replace the turkey with tuna.

2. The 8.5
The Jersey Mike’s 8.5 hoagie seems to be something that originated on social media, and many staff members are unfamiliar with the name, so you may have better luck if you describe what you’re looking for. The name comes from the fact that it’s kind of a twist between the #8 and the #9, so you could ask for either a #8 with roast beef or a #9 with ham—done Mike’s way, of course.
We love each of the main components of this sandwich individually, so putting them all together sounds like a surefire winner to us. Think of this as a supercharged turkey sandwich. It has turkey, bacon, vegetables and ranch dressing.
4. The Martian
We’re not sure where the “Martian” name originated, but some people also call this by a more self-explanatory name: the “salami pepperoni.” You start with a #5 Super Sub and replace ham with salami, replace prosciutto with pepperoni, and top it off with provolone cheese.
Reportedly only available in certain locations (which, not surprisingly, may include California), this is a #7 Turkey and Provolone hoagie, but with bacon and avocado. The avocado seems to be the tricky part here because not all locations stock the topping.
6. The Meateor
You might also think of this one as the meat-lovers special or just the “give me all the meats” option. It’s every meat option from the cold cut category, and you might as well add on some bacon, too. Needless to say, this is a substantial meal—think of it as the heavyweight of hoagies.
We’ve seen a few variations of this Cuban sub at Jersey Mike’s. Like many secret hacks, it offers lots of opportunity for customization. You would generally start with a #5 (or a #13 if you want salami and pepperoni) and then request Swiss cheese instead of provolone. Finish it off with spicy mustard and plenty of pickles—along with whatever else you want to add. If your Jersey Mike’s location is among those that are willing to toast cold subs, this is the perfect time to request that option.

8. #19 BBQ Beef
Another one that seems to be only available at some locations, the #19 is a sub that features roast beef heated on the grill and loaded with barbecue sauce. We suggest adding onions and peppers, too. If you’re a sloppy joe fan, you'll want to give this one a try.
This sub has boiled ham, pepperoni, salami and provolone cheese. It’s like a #13 but without the cappacuolo or proscuittini (pepper-cured ham), so it might be a bit cheaper than the #13. Unlike a traditional Italian hoagie, this sub is heated on the grill, so you get the melted cheese as a bonus.
10. #97 Big Kahuna Chicken Cheesesteak with Chipotle Mayo
Secret menu items don’t need to be complicated. This one is exactly what it sounds like—it’s a #55 Big Kahuna Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak but with the addition of chipotle mayo. The buffalo sauce and chipotle mayo combine to bring the heat—along with a zesty taste that fans love.
The “R&R” in the name of this sub is short for Roast Beef and Reuben. This secret menu item might be akin to trying to find a unicorn because the Reuben was officially discontinued from the Jersey Mike’s menu a while back (to the disappointment of many fans who loved that sandwich). If you happen to find a location that still has the ingredients, you’ll want to ask for pastrami and corned beef and/or roast beef on the grill, mixed with Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing—plus pickles if you like them.
12. Pepperoni Pizza Sub
If your local Jersey Mike’s location has meatballs, that’s the ideal starting point for this sub. If not, there’s a workaround that can get you pretty close to the same end result. Start with a #3, and request marinara sauce on the bottom part of the roll. Get provolone instead of Swiss cheese and swap in pepperoni instead of ham.
The Secret Menu #99 at Jersey Mike’s is like putting the #43 Chipotle Cheesesteak and the #56 Big Kahuna cheese steak together into one incredible sandwich. (Hence the name: 43 + 56 = 99.) You get grilled steak, onions, mushrooms, peppers, melted cheese, jalapeños and chipotle mayo. Some fans call this “the ultimate cheesesteak.” This is already plenty spicy enough for most people, thanks to the jalapeños and the chipotle mayo, but if you want to take the heat to the next level, insiders recommend asking for extra chipotle mayo. YouTuber That Crazy Sub Guy suggests getting this sandwich on rosemary Parmesan bread.

14. Italian Sub in a Tub
You can create your own salad at Jersey Mike’s by asking for a “sub in a tub.” That’s any cold sub, but the ingredients are chopped up and put in a bowl instead of a bun. (These are sometimes also called “bowls.”) If you're new to Jersey Mike's salads, we'd suggest trying the #13 Italian, with lots of dressing and extra veggies.

Who says salads can’t be a hearty meal? We’re guessing this one gets its name from the fact that it’s a meat-heavy mix that can fill even the hungriest customers. Essentially, it’s a #9 Club Supreme in salad form—and is typically made with prosciutto (instead of turkey) and spicy mustard. If that’s not enough for you, add whatever other toppings you like.
