The San Diego County Taxpayers Association will have a new interim chief executive in the coming year.
Former San Diego Housing Commission president Rick Gentry will replace former CEO Haney Hong, who resigned on Friday.
Haney Hong was chief executive of the Taxpayers Association for nine years.
“I am the leader to drive transformational change; now since the transformation I promised nine years ago is substantively in place, the enterprise needs leaders who will cement in and build on a new foundation, shepherding and sustaining its new form by building the necessary infrastructure and scale,” Hong said in a statement.
He added that he feels that the association needs a leader with different gifts than he has.
Hong’s replacement, Gentry, served as a board member at the Association for nearly three years after he retired as CEO and president of the Housing Commission.
Gentry said he is honored to serve as interim CEO, and that he will use his insight as a board member to provide the company stability during the transition.
Hong formerly served as a commanding officer in the Navy Reserve and teaches classes on public policy and administration at University of California, San Diego Extended Studies and the UCSD School of Global Policy and Strategy.
