(KRON) -- A Mountain View restaurant suffered $100,000 in damages Monday after a fire broke out and caused an explosion. According to the City of Mountain View, firefighters responded at 8:06 a.m. Monday after a 911 call was received reporting smoke filling the Maison Alyzee restaurant at 212 Castro Street.
According to city officials, an employee at the restaurant self-evacuated before fire crews arrived.
City of Mountain View firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:12 a.m. to find a sprinkler head actively flowing water and smoke pouring out of the single-story restaurant. Firefighters stopped the water from the sprinkler and removed charred remains of chairs debris from the building.
San Francisco woman charged in horse tail pulling incident that injured childUsing salvage operation techniques, fire crews removed smoke and water from the building and performed an extensive overhaul to completely extinguish the flames. Officials said the damage is estimated at $100,000.
There is smoke damage throughout the restaurant, most severely in the rear kitchen area. Officials said the fire was possibly caused by a lithium-ion battery that was charging unattended. A CO2 cylinder in the same room that the fire broke out in exploded, officials said.
Before departing the scene, firefighters replaced the sprinkler head and recharged the sprinkler system. The Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health is working with the restaurant's management to recertify and reopen the establishment.
The restaurant, in the meantime, will remain closed.
