HIL 2024-25 in controversy: Players waiting for payments, franchise owners reel from losses

The Hockey India League (HIL) has returned after seven years, but it faces a new controversy now. Eventually the league is in debate now as some players are still waiting for their salaries as the dues are unpaid. According to a report by My Khel, players are complaining because even a month after the tournament ended, they have not received their full payments. A player from the first Women’s HIL held in January has only received 20% of her payment. Now, the President of Hockey India, Dilip Tirkey has confirmed this issue. A meeting was held in Bhubaneswar to review the situation with everyone involved.

Franchise owners unhappy with losses

According to the report, it seems like the HIL franchise owners are reportedly dissatisfied due to unexpected financial losses during the league. They were disappointed from the player auction itself, as things did not go as planned. A team official noted that the 2024-25 edition of HIL resulted in significant losses, and existing problems were not resolved.
