The headlines of the India vs New Zealand clash in the ICC Champions Trophy have been hogged by Varun Chakravarthy. Playing his first game of the tournament, the leggie bagged a brilliant fifer to inflict a 44 run win against the Kiwis. Teammate Axar Patel claimed that Varun has improved massively since playing the T20 World Cup back in 2021.
Team India managed to score 249 against New Zealand in Dubai. After the batting collapse, Axar Patel along with Shreyas Iyer steadied the helm. The ace all-rounder notched up 42 runs while Iyer managed a gritty 79. In bowling, Axar managed a lone strike, but Varun stole the show with his massive five-wicket haul.
Varun Chakravarthy has improved massively
“Everyone is happy for him. It was his first match. I think the credit goes to him. It’s not that easy. When he played last in the T20 World Cup 2021, it was not that good. But the way he has come after that, his mental skill shows how ready he is mentally. I think he is getting carried forward in his one-day cricket as well,” Axar Patel told the media after the match.
Axar Patel is incredibly happy with the improvement that Varun Chakravarthy has shown. He also praised the latter’s mental skill, showcasing how the ace spinner is ready for big occasions. He also spoke about the speed variations in which Chakravarthy bowls.
“Everyone has seen what he bowls and what he doesn’t. It is very difficult, and the way he bowls with pace, it is very difficult to read everyone else. And his bat is also static. If you miss, there is a higher chance of getting out. In the air, he also goes fast. It is not that he goes slow,” Axar concluded.
