Whoopi Goldberg teased the future of the Sister Act franchise during a recent conversation with Parade.
Goldberg gave the enticing update at the Whoopi Goldberg Prosecco launch at the Loews Hotel in Hollywood on Feb. 28, and during the conversation, Goldberg touched on one of her most successful projects as fans await any news of a possible third film.

While chatting, Parade asked Goldberg about Sister Act, the 1992 comedy film that also starred Maggie Smith and Harvey Keitel, posing the question, "Any chance you'd ever reprise something from that again?"
Goldberg had a surprising response, sharing a major update about a new film, saying, "It's coming back. It's coming back!"
"We've turned in the script, and so now we're just waiting to find out if they'll greenlight it," she went on. The potential new project would be the third in the series, as a sequel called Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit came out in 1993.
Goldberg elaborated on the significance of such a project, touching on the late Smith's legacy with the franchise. "The whole thing was to get [the third film] done before Maggie Smith passed, and we weren't able to. We weren't able to get that done, but it's a good-- The homage to her will be wonderful and beautiful and fun and it will be a nice way to, you know, just close it out," she said.
Sister Act 3 has been in development for years, since before Smith's death, and there have been updates here and there from Goldberg and others involved with the highly-anticipated project. There is no set release date or announced cast members aside from Goldberg.
While Goldberg waits for the official green light on the project, the EGOT holder was ready to go with her latest one while in town for this year’s Academy Awards, something she called a "love letter" to her friends.
"There's lots of the alcohols that are out there. There's gins and and vodkas and all kind of stuff, but there didn't seem to be a lot of Prosecco. So I thought, well, this is a nice little place," Goldberg told Parade. "It's really good. It's well priced, which I like a lot. It's a present for my friends, really. It's a love letter to them, a thank you... for just staying my friends. It's hard to keep friends. So the ones that I love the most, this is dedicated to them."
