THE wheels came off for the Dallas Cowboys in a woeful season.
And now owner Jerry Jones has ditched his annual chat with reporters on the team bus!
The high-profile 82-year-old is normally outspoken.
And his informal exchange with the media at the NFL scouting combine is an eagerly-awaited event.
But this time Jones will skip that encounter – just as the Cowboys ponder major decisions like who will be Dak Prescott‘s back-up at quarterback.
He promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to replace Mike McCarthy as coach in January.
Jones denied he was staying in his “comfort zone” by choosing from within the club.
But when he explained his appointment he immediately he scored something of an own goal.
That’s because he insisted naming Schottenheimer was a huge gamble due to his lack of experience as a head coach.
Could that be a case of being thrown under the bus?!
And that’s just one example of Jones sparking controversy or drama with his comments.
Now, though he’s dropped his usual informal chat with a handful of reports on the team bus in Indianapolis.
The Dallas Morning News say the Cowboys pointed to a “conflict with other commitments and meetings that had been scheduled”.
But it’s understood he could soon get back on board with the media – with a meeting next meet to discuss the team’s off-season approach
That follows a dodgy Dallas campaign of seven wins and 10 defeats.
Prescott, 31, is now back to full fitness – so the Cowboys have a tricky situation over who should be his ‘deputy’.
Selecting between their current duo of 24-year-old Trey Lance and former New York Giants star Cooper Rush, 31, won’t be easy.
