How Did We Test The Aldi Pizzas?

I live with all boys, so I didn't have to twist any arms to help me with this food assignment!

Since we are longtime fans of Aldi's pizzas, a blind taste test wasn't possible, because we know a few kinds just by looking at them.

So we baked, we ate, we tasted some more, and we discussed. No matter if we loved it or it wasn't a favorite, we had to have tangible reasons why. Even the eight-year-old had to put his opinion into words!

We're also fans of leftover cold pizza, so we tried a few of our favorites the next day to see if they could pass the lunchbox test!

The good news is none of them were a resounding no, and we certainly didn't hate any. But choices had to be made and there were some we probably wouldn't buy again, but that's not to say your family wouldn't enjoy them! Read on for all of our thoughts and our ranking.

    10. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen Pepperoni Stuffed Crust Pizza

Mama Cozzi's Cheese Stuffed Crust Pepperoni Pizza

    Krista Marshall

My husband loves stuffed crust pizza, with a capital L, but the price of it at those big chain restaurants has gotten ridiculous. So I was really excited to treat him to this. Thankfully, the stuffed crust itself wasn't what landed it at the bottom of the list. The part was ooey, gooey and delicious. So what was the culprit? The sauce! Not only was the flavor lacking, but there simply wasn't enough of it. His exact words were "That's disappointing. If it had double the sauce it would be worth eating again."

    9. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen 16" Thin Crust Take & Bake Mega Meat Deli Pizza

    Aldi

If you love meat, this is the pizza for you! Piled high with pepperoni, sausage, salami, beef and bacon, every bite has a little bit of it all. We felt like the thin crust couldn't stand up to the amount of toppings, and this pizza would have landed higher on the list if it had a thicker, chewier crust to carry all the meaty goodness. Plus, when we tried to eat this one the next day, it got soggy in the fridge and was falling apart.

    8. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen Frozen Thin Crust Pepperoni Pizza

If you're looking for a tasty, standard pepperoni pizza, you can't go wrong with this one, especially for about three bucks. The only quibble? My little guy was frustrated by the amount of pepperoni on top (or lack thereof). When we first opened it, the pepperoni slices were all piled in the middle, so we thought when we spread them out it would be better, but there weren't nearly enough for my pepperoni fanatic. That said, it didn't stop him from having me pack this pizza in his lunch the next day! In fact, I buy this frequently to bake on Sunday night for school lunches all week.

    7. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen Pepperoni Rising Crust Pizza

    Aldi

This self-rising crust pizza is very close to its more expensive name-brand counterpart in flavor and look, so that's a plus. In fact, we didn't really have anything negative to say, it just didn't excite us as much as others higher on the list. The crust was absolutely the star of the show with the browned, crispy edges and chewy center.

    6. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen 16" Cheese Take & Bake Pizza

    Aldi

When I go to Aldi for a deli, or take-n-bake, pizza, this is one of the two I am reaching for. (You will find the other later on the list!) Like Kevin McAllister in "Home Alone", I love a great cheese pizza and this one has been a staple in our house for years. With five types of cheese: mozzarella, romano, Parmesan, provolone and Monterey jack, the melty, gooey factor is off the charts. Bonus: This one is just as good cold as it is fresh from the oven.

    5. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen 16" Supreme Take & Bake Pizza

    Aldi

If your family loves a pizza piled high with toppings, they'll flip for number five on our list. It has pepperoni, Italian sausage, peppers, black olives and red onion, which sit on top of three cheeses! We loved the combination of flavors and the fact the veggies were still left with just a little bite at the end of baking—no soft mushy peppers for us! Cut this one into smaller squares for the perfect party appetizer.

    4. Specially Selected Garlic Provola Flatbread

    Aldi

The only non-Mama Cozzi's pizza on the list is a brand-new product at Aldi and I hope it becomes a fixture in their freezer section. You might argue that a flatbread isn't a pizza, but this flatbread certainly eats like one, so it landed on our list. The upscale flatbread has a sophisticated garlic flavor without being overpowering, it gets extra crispy in the oven (I baked it a few extra minutes to make sure!) and the cheese melts to perfection. It is like a bougie, grown-up cheese pizza and I will definitely buy this one again!

    3. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen Chocolate Chunk Pizza Cookie

    Krista Marshall

Another newly released item from Aldi—and another alternative pizza—has landed in our top three! Mama Cozzi stepped outside her Italian comfort zone for a quick, easy store-bought dessert that tastes and looks homemade. Coming in its foil baking pan, this chewy, chocolatey cookie pie takes less than five minutes in the oven and comes out warm, gooey and decadent. Serve it with a scoop of ice cream to take it over the top, and don't sleep on the leftovers because it was just as soft the next day!

     2. Mama Cozzi's Pizza Kitchen Original Thin Cheese

    Aldi

For this cheese pizza fan, this is the ultimate choice. A thin, crispy crust covered edge to edge with a zesty tomato sauce and shredded cheese that melts perfectly while baking. I usually buy these two at a time. I keep one plain cheese for me, and let the boys add toppings to the other if they want—sliced black olives and canned mushrooms are their favorites. The Mama Cozzi's original thin pizzas are FANTASTIC on the grill too, eliminating the need to turn on the oven during the hot summer months.

My husband and my youngest son are pepperoni experts. It is their go-to topping, and this was an easy winner! A pizza as big as the kitchen counter that has just the right amount of flavorful sauce, cheese and sliced pepperoni covering almost every inch. The crust has a perfect texture when you sink your teeth in—crispy on the outside, nice and chewy on the inside. The three of us just kept going back for more, and probably would have finished it off had we not had nine other pizzas to taste test!
