Kevin Durant addresses ‘noise’ around Suns after Chris Haynes report

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant said the Suns need to focus on themselves while addressing the Chris Haynes report that came out Friday that said coach Mike Budenholzer called out Devin Booker for being too vocal.

“You see, you hear the noise around our team,” Durant said after Friday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans. “You see what’s going on around our team. And how many people got opinions on what we’re doing.

“And I think as players, if you hear that stuff, it’s about deflecting all of that stuff and focusing in on what’s in the locker room and not letting the noise (affect us), because there’s some noise that came out today.”

The Suns bounced back to defeat the Pelicans, 125-108, after falling to the same opponent a day prior. Durant finished with 17 points (on 7-for-10 shooting), six assists and three steals in the win.

Earlier on Friday, a report came out from Haynes that said Budenholzer called Booker into his office weeks ago telling the Suns guard to “tone it down” and stop being as vocal.

According to Haynes, Booker was “completely shocked” by Budenholzer’s request.

Despite Haynes’ reporting, Budenholzer later praised Booker’s communication style before Friday’s game and said he has no issue with how the Suns guard communicates.

“I’m not going to act like we didn’t see,” Durant said of the Haynes report.

“We went on today and that’s been happening around our team the last two years. So guys are understanding what the circumstances we got to play under and what we need to do is just focus in on each other.”

Durant said he loved how the Suns were sticking together as a unit, and felt like the team is coming together even closer during the recent stretch.

Friday’s win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Suns. In the month of February, the Suns finished with a 3-10 record that has seen the team tumble to 28-32 overall and 11th in the Western Conference.

“If you got (the) Bleach Report app, you got the ESPN app, all that stuff just flashes,” Durant said. “It’s hard to ignore all that stuff. But that’s the nature of the beast that we’re in and I think the more we knuckle down and understand like yes, we are playing bad basketball. We’re not playing up to our standard.”

“And the easier we accept that, then we can come out there and play games like we did tonight where we’re just moving the ball, shooting the ball well, playing great defense. I like a little struggle. I like a little adversity.”
