This month on Goldfish Swim School‘s Water Safety Patrol, listen to a conversation with Charlie Buckner, president of the Carolina Sailing Foundation, about setting sail, staying safe, and teaching new sailors over the summer on the water at Jordan Lake!
“The Carolina Sailing Foundation was founded more than 20 years ago, simply for the purpose of promoting the sport of sailing,” said Buckner. “We do that primarily through teaching people how to sail most of our activities over at Crosswinds Boating Center at Jordan Lake, we have a sailing summer camp. It’s a day camp for kids, nine to 16 years old, runs June through August.”
The sailing summer camps all begin the same way, because the building of skills and confidence on and in the water always starts at the same place: safety.
“For all of our sailing classes, the first thing we do is a short swim test because we wanna make sure that all of our sailors are safe and ready to have fun,” said Buckner. “Water can be dangerous and you don’t want to take it for granted. But once you learn how to swim, then water can just become your playground for sailing.”
