A female pedestrian remains hospitalized this morning with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car in the Mission Valley East neighborhood, the San Diego Police Department said.

SDPD said in a news release that at 11:36 p.m. Thursday, the 35-year-old woman began walking on the street from the southeast corner of Friars and Frazee roads.

A 19-year-old man was driving a 2023 Toyota Corolla east on 7600 Friars Road on a green light when the woman crossed his path, SDPD said.

Police said the woman, who suffered a lacerated spleen and fractured leg, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

SDPD said alcohol was not a factor in the collision, which is under investigation.
