As fans continue to speculate about Michelle Trachtenberg's cause of death at 39, some have pointed out that the actress was photographed using a cane several times over the years.
In an X post on Thursday, Feb. 27, one person shared a pair of photos of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star on the red carpet with a cane, writing, "michelle trachtenberg had been disabled, possibly in multiple ways, for years. 2020 she was on a red carpet with a cane twice, once in jan and another in feb. she (understandably) just kept her health experiences private."

In the first photo, Trachtenberg posed on the red carpet at The Art Of Elysium's 13th Annual Celebration in Los Angeles on Jan. 4, 2020, wearing a black jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and holding a cane in one hand.

On Feb. 6, 2020, Trachtenberg was snapped at Cadillac's 92nd Annual Academy Awards celebration, also in Los Angeles, leaning on a cane again.

According to Us Weekly, Trachtenberg addressed the cane in late 2019, claiming a broken ankle was to blame for her accessory.
“Dear 2019. My broken ankle can still kick your a-- out the door,” she captioned a photo. “Cuz in 2020, I’m going to be 100% that b---h. ???.”
However, it's worth noting that Trachtenberg was also seen with a cane in 2018 posing alongside Buffy co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar at the GOOD+ Foundation's 3rd Annual Halloween Bash.

Trachtenberg's appearance in the months leading up to her death was a cause of concern for fans. In January 2024, Trachtenberg responded to a comment on an Instagram post asking her outright whether she was sick.
"Explain to me how I look sick," she shot back. "Did you lose a calendar and not realize I'm not 14. I'm 38. How sad for you to leave such a comment."
On Thursday, Feb. 27, TMZ reported that Trachtenberg's family asked the New York City medical examiner not to do an autopsy. Her cause of death has been ruled as undetermined.
