DOGE ‘dividend’ ‘step closer to becoming law’ boosting hopes that millions could get $5k check before 2026

THE so-called Doge dividend could be inching one step closer to becoming reality as a bill containing the proposal is reportedly being drafted.

Both Elon Musk and Donald Trump are curious about turning a proportion of savings from the Department of Government Efficiency into a one-time check.

The idea was first touted by investor James Fishback who suggested 20% of the savings made by Doge could be set aside for the payments.

He calculated the sum based on Musk’s vision to try and save $2 trillion, according to his paper.

FIshback revealed 20% of savings would equate to $400 billion and a payments could be dished to 79 million tax-paying households.

This would equate to a check of $5,000.

And Fishback told The New York Post: “The proposed bill will be coming in the next few days.”

In his proposal, Fishback suggested the checks could be sent after July 2026 when Doge is due to sunset.

But, he suggested to the Post payments could be sent sooner if the Doge dividend is enshrined into law.

So far, Doge claims it has saved $65 billion, according to its savings calculator.

Critics of Fishback’s plan have claimed any payments could cause a spike in inflation.

Experts revealed the stimulus checks issued during the pandemic had an impact.

But Fishback said any Doge payments would be solely funded by the savings.

And, the checks would only be sent to taxpaying homes.

This means not all Americans would receive a check should one be introduced.

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are currently unsure about the idea of a Doge dividend.

Mike Johnson, speaker of the House of Representatives, said a stimulus check would be great for the GOP politically.

“But if you think about our core principles, right, fiscal responsibility is what we do as conservatives,” he told crowds at CPAC.

“That’s our brand and we have a $36 trillion federal debt.

“We have a giant deficit that we’re contending with. I think we need to pay down the credit card, right?”

Johnson reportedly rolled his eyes when the idea of a Doge check was cheered, per USA Today.

    POLITICAL SUPPORT

Trump claimed the idea of a check was “great” while Musk promised to check in with the president when the proposal was first put to him.

“It’s money taken away from the things that are destructive to the country, and from organizations that hate you,” Musk told fans at CPAC.

Polling from JL Partners revealed seven in ten Americans support a Doge dividend.

Six in ten Democrats believe politicians on Capitol Hill have spent taxpayers money unwisely.

And, a majority believe the carrot of a payment would incentivize Americans to report waste.

Reporting waste is one of the benefits alluded to by Fishback in his initial proposal.
