McDonald's is giving a breakfast menu staple the celebration it deserves.
The Golden Arches' classic Egg McMuffin was invented by Herb Peterson in 1971 and made its nationwide debut four years later. In the five decades since, the breakfast sandwich and its variations have remained a "personal favorite" amongst customers, even earning the title "GOAT" and now recognition as a "history maker."

"When I watched my father introduce this idea to Ray Kroc, we could not have anticipated it would become the foundation for the renowned McDonald’s breakfast menu,” said son of the McMuffin inventor and McDonald’s owner/operator David Peterson in a statement. “It’s been remarkable to see people embrace this innovation over the last five decades, and now we get to share that heritage with a new generation of breakfast fans.”

For a limited time, in honor of the Egg McMuffin's "golden birthday," McDonald's is "doubling down" on its breakfast offerings and "elevating fans’ experience" without any secret menu items.
"At McDonald's, breakfast isn't just a meal; it's a cherished tradition and cornerstone of our brand," added Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald's USA.

To kick off what the company described as a year-long campaign, two very popular breakfast items will be expanding: McDonald's Bagel Sandwiches and its collaboration with Krispy Kreme.
Starting this week, McDonald's all across the U.S. will now serve bagels and participating restaurants in New York join McDonald's locations in major cities like Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Louisville in serving up the famed Krispy Kreme donut (as well as its related breakfast sandwich hacks). By the end of this year, the company said more than half of all McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. will offer the sweet treat, with nationwide availability by the end of 2026.
McDonald's is also offering special ways to save on morning must-haves, offering app users an Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with Egg breakfast sandwich for just $1 now through National Egg McMuffin Day on Sunday, March 2. McDonald's app users can also score a BOGO Sausage McMuffin with Egg when making a McDelivery order between Monday, March 3 and Sunday, March 30.
