Southern Illinois Breaks Conference Records in Both Relays on Day 1 of Women’s MVC Champs ...Middle East

The 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off last night in Waukee, Iowa. As usual, the first night of the meet was a short one, featuring just the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay. Southern Illinois got out to the hottest start, winning both relays in new conference records.

The Salukis kicked off the evening with a convincing win in the 200 medley relay, where they clocked a 1:36.84. Celia Pulido (23.69), Olivia Herron (27.04), Maria Padron Salazar (23.38), and Susana Hernandez Barradas (22.73) teamed up to earn the win, cracking the MVC record of 1:37.21, which this same SIU crew set in the fall. They also blew away the meet record of 1:38.60, which was set back in 2022. Of course, the performance marks a program record for SIU.

We should make note of Pulido’s 23.69 lead-off split, as that’s a truly elite 50 backstroke. Another notable split in the field included a 22.00 anchor leg from Northern Iowa’s Faith Larsen.

Of note, Indiana State’s relay of Sahara Visscher (25.46), Ali Pearson (27.33), Raine Boles (24.22), Kaleigh Kelley (22.48) combined for a 1:39.49, finishing 2nd. That swim marks a new program record for Indiana State. Additionally, Visscher’s lead-off split of 25.46 set a new program record in the 50 back.

SIU then went on to win the 800 free relay in 7:12.16, which clipped the conference and meet record of 7:12.19 that Missouri State set at last year’s MVC Championships. Hernadez Barradas (1:49.59), Padron Salazar (1:48.44), Herron (1:48.18), and Pulido (1:45.95) combined to earn the victory. In addition to the conference record, that performance marked another program record for SIU.

Indiana State came in 2nd once again in this relay, also breaking their program record. Erin Cummins (1:48.36), Visscher (1:48.94), Chloe Farro (1:49.67), and Claire Parsons (1:47.77) teamed up for a 7:14.74 to set a new team record.
