2025 GHSAA 1-3A State Championships
Feb. 4-8, 2025 Atlanta, Georgia SCY (25 yards) Meet Central Full Results (PDF)The Georgia 1-3A state meet featured a first-time team winner, and another that celebrated a title for the first time in 15 years.
The Lovett girls won its first-ever title on the strength of a victory in the final event, while the Greater Atlanta Christian boys team won its first championship since 2010.
GIRLS’ RECAP
Three girls won two events each: Greater Atlanta Christian’s Madeline House and Abigail Heizer, and Mount Vernon Presbyterian’s Chloe Cappola.
A senior who is headed to Queens University in Charlotte, House won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:51.09 and the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:03.59.
A senior who has signed with Auburn, Heizer was the sprint freestyle queen, winning the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.98 and the 100 freestyle in 50.10. Heizer finished second in both events last year.
House (third leg) and Heizer (anchor) also were a part of Atlanta Christian’s winning team in the 200 medley relay, which finished with a time of 1:43.54. Abby Sutter and Caroline Parker were the other team members.
Cappola is a junior who first won the 100 butterfly in a personal best time of 55.84. She then won the 100 backstroke in a time of 56.02.
In the last event, Lovett’s team of Virginia Jane Hultgren, Decker Stedman, Lyla Nelson and South Carolina signee Alexis Dalton won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:34.28. That brought Lovett’s final total to 410, just ahead of Greater Atlanta Christian (402.5).
Other individual winners were:
Hattie Wasmuth. A senior from Wesleyan who has signed with Buffalo, Wasmuth repeated as champion in the 200 IM in a time of 2:06.07. Abbey Suits. The sophomore from Wesleyan won diving with 628.60 points. Alexis Dalton. She won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:03.83.Girls’ Team Standings — Top 5
Lovett, 410 Greater Atlanta Christian, 402.5 Jefferson, 213 Mount Vernon, 190 Calhoun, 183BOYS’ RECAP
No individual won two events, but Eric Xu and Max Perry of Wesleyan each won one event and were a part of two winning relay teams, while James Sorensen of Greater Atlanta Christian won one event and was a part of a winning relay team.
A junior, Sorensen won the 100 backstroke in a personal best time of 49.04, and he also swam leadoff for Greater Atlanta Christian’s winning team in the 200 medley relay. The team clocked a time of 1:36.48, just .15 ahead of runner-up Galloway.
Other team members were Ephraim Ng, Carson Credendino and Makais Burrough.
Xu won the 200 IM in a time of 1:51.06, and then was a part of Wesleyan’s winning teams in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. In the 200 freestyle relay, Xu swam leadoff and Perry anchored for a team that finished with a time of 1:26.05. Jace Neeb and Ryan Cowart were the other members.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Xu swam third and Perry anchored for a team that won the event in a time of 3:12.58. Other team members were Cowart and Vishaan Pandya.
In addition, Perry repeated as champion in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.95.
Other individual winners were:
Lauritz Adriansen. The sophomore from Mount Pisgah Christian School set a personal best time of 1:43.24 in winning the 200 freestyle. Trevor Sewell. A senior for Holy Innocents Episcopal, he won diving with 515.95 points. Kyle Davis. After finishing second last year in the 100 butterfly, the Jefferson senior and Florida Tech signee finished first in a time of 49.79. Riley Richards. The junior from Hebron Christian swam a personal best time of 45.56 to win the 100 freestyle. Jack Jung. A junior from Sandy Creek, he won the 500 freestyle in a personal best time of 4:41.92. Justin Duke. A senior from Jefferson and Carson-Newman signee, Duke won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 57.62.Boys’ Team Standings — Top 5
