Sports world reacts to Diana Taurasi’s retirement

When a legend retires, everyone is sure to take notice. And that is exactly what happened Tuesday following the news that WNBA and Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi announced her retirement from the sport.

She ends her 20-year career as the league’s all-time leading scorer, three WNBA titles, 11 All-Star selections, and a strong claim as the greatest of all time in the sport.

    “My scoring record, or the six gold medals, someone’s going to come around that has the same hunger, the same addiction to basketball, and put those records in a different way, a different name,” Taurasi said in an interview with TIME. “That’s what sports is all about. That’s going to be fun to watch. Hopefully not soon.”
