Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach spoke with reporters on Tuesday at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. He addressed the retirement rumors surrounding Travis Kelce and his belief that he isn’t done with the gridiron yet.
“I still think he has that fire and desire to play,” said Veach. “How we left at the end of the season is that he was fired up; I think we left it as he’d be back and were excited to get him back and get him going.”
Veach insists there is no hard deadline for a decision from Kelce. The ten-time Pro Bowler has an $11.5 million roster bonus on March 15 that would trigger in the final year of his contract.
Kelce is third all-time behind Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten and only 2,977 yards behind Gonzalez for the most for a tight end in league history, with 896 behind Witten in second place. He finished last season with 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns.
