With the Blackhawks hitting the road for the week with only 12 healthy forwards on the NHL roster, it was somewhat expected that someone would get called up. Colton Dach was recalled on Monday. He was out for a week with a hip injury but rejoined the IceHogs over the weekend. We’ll see if he gets into the lineup… and what that means for Lukas Reichel.
Dach isn’t with the IceHogs this week and Rockford will also be without defenseman Artyom Levshunov, who was suspended one game for this move on Sunday against the Wolves. He deserves a game for this, even if his reaction seems to indicate he didn’t necessarily intend to hit the dude in the face. He’ll miss the IceHogs’ game in Tuscon on Friday night.Blackhawks prospect Artyom Levshunov received a game misconduct and a one-game suspension for this cross-check in yesterday's game. pic.twitter.com/LRjJ7uIjCd
Blackhawks prospect Dominic James has overcome a lost junior season and earned an NHL contract with an excellent senior season with @UMDMensHockey."He’s a guy we really like. He’s in a similar vein to Landon Slaggert at Notre Dame."New story: t.co/jBselc5aYA
— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) February 24, 2025 The Blackhawks had a scout at the Kings-Golden Knights game last night. If you want to put that away somewhere in your mental Trade Deadline file, feel free. But please include a grain of salt that the Blackhawks are in Vegas on Thursday night. Since we already touched on the whole getting suspended for hitting a guy in the head concept, it appears the Blackhawks will face the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night without Trevor Zegras. He was suspended three games for a dirty cheap shot against Detroit this weekend. The game against the Blackhawks this weekend would be the third game of the suspension. We’ll see if he appeals.Anaheim’s Trevor Zegras has been suspended for three games for interference against Detroit’s Michael Rasmussen. t.co/HziR0pQ04t
— NHL Player Safety (@NHLPlayerSafety) February 24, 2025 It doesn’t appear to be something will impact the Blackhawks’ game in Anaheim this weekend, but the Ducks also made a trade on Monday. They acquired goaltender Ville Husso from the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations. Husso will head to the Ducks’ AHL affiliate, where they need some help with depth. The trade does save the Red Wings $3.6M in cap space, though. Keep an eye on Detroit before the deadline…Thank you to future considerations and best of luck in Detroit.
— Anaheim Ducks (@AnaheimDucks) February 25, 2025 Solid rumor round-up here from my guy David Pagnotta at The Fourth Period in which he talks about the defense situation in Dallas. He notes that Miro Heiskanen may be out until the second round of the playoffs, making the Stars’ need to get an impact defenseman even more significant if they want to go anywhere this year. Erik Karlsson’s name has popped up a few times as another expensive option for the Stars; his cap hit is even higher than Seth Jones‘. I will also note that I have seen a few places/insiders mention that Dallas might be open to including young forward Mavrik Bourque in a deal — which would seem to be the kind of player the Blackhawks would like to bring back in a Jones trade. My latest touches on Heiskanen and #TexasHockey potentially being big trade deadline players. — David Pagnotta (@TheFourthPeriod) February 24, 2025 The Blackhawks and Bulls are continuing to steamroll forward with their plans to overhaul the area surrounding the United Center. No, I don’t know where everyone is supposed to park eventually. The United Center’s owners have bought two more parking lots near the stadium, aiming to start a planned $7 billion transformation of the surrounding area this summer. t.co/ZF1IoziRPZ
— Chicago Sun-Times (@Suntimes) February 25, 2025 Though I hate that we can still focus on the Blackhawks having a pick in the top six of the draft this June because it means they’re still bad, I do love me some draft talk. The guys at NHL.com dropped a nice podcast episode in which they discuss the top six players in this year’s class and chat about four others. Pretty good chance the Hawks are picking one of these guys. Solid listen.NHL Draft Class: It's @NHL Mock Draft 1.0. @NHLAdamK & I take a deep dive into the top 6 picks & 4 other fav. picks among the top 32. @BC_MHockey coach Greg Brown joins us to discuss James Hagens and @collegehockey.Spotify: t.co/soFbLryQV7Apple: t.co/zRzcb8dUAS
