The Jacksonville Jaguars have their new leadership team in place after hiring James Gladstone to be the general manager. He, along with Tony Boselli and Liam Coen will make up what the Jaguars are calling their “football leadership unit.”
Beyond the individual roles that Gladstone, Boselli, and Coen will have, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer recently reported on how the trio will work together moving forward, along with Shad Khan’s role, in Jacksonville’s leadership structure.
According to Breer, Gladstone, Boselli, and Coen will all report directly to Khan.
Individually, Gladstone will be in charge of everything that revolves around building the roster. Coen will oversee the players, coaches, and anyone who touches the field. Lastly, Boselli will be in charge of strength and conditioning, medical, travel, facilities, and PR, as Beer put it.
Breer would add that with Boselli handling all the non-direct football aspects that come with running a team, that frees up Gladstone to focus more on the pure football operations, specifically building the team, and for Coen to focus solely on coaching.
“The Jags see a changing environment in the sport, and not just at the NFL level, and wanted a forward-thinking, adaptable group to lead them through it,” wrote Breer. “They’re betting that Boselli, Coen and Gladstone will give them that, and doing it without the safety net of having previous experience underneath them.”
During Gladstone’s introductory press conference, he discussed alignment throughout the organization and the importance of adaptability when it comes to how the Jaguars’ operate. Again, we don’t know what the outcome of all this will be, but the new leadership structure seems to prioritize those elements.
