‘Poor excuse’ – Darts row bizarrely erupted over floorboards in fiery Premier League clash

Adrian Lewis was once accused of deliberately shaking the floorboards during a match – leading to a bizarre on-stage row.

The incident occurred during the 2012 edition of the Premier League.

Jackpot faced James Wade in a tense encounter in Nottingham on night nine of the event.

Wade felt that Lewis was deliberately shaking the floorboards as a row broke out.

Lewis claimed an 8-5 victory over the Machine, who made the accusation after the match.

However, the two-time world champion insisted he was innocent and had not been shaking the floorboards internationally.

Speaking at the time, Lewis explained: “I never did anything wrong – there was a raised floorboard.

“I think it was a poor excuse when I came out firing in the second half because he didn’t moan about it in the first half.

“I swear on my daughter’s life I have never ever cheated. I don’t need to because I believe in my ability.”

Wade would go on to have the last laugh, though, as he qualified for the play-offs ahead of Lewis that year.

The 2009 Premier League winner finished fourth in the standings, whilst Lewis ended his campaign in sixth.

As a result, Wade was part of the four-man field on finals night in London 13 years ago.

However, he would go on to lose to eventual winner Phil Taylor in the semi-finals.

Neither player is involved in this year’s Premier League, which continues on Thursday.

Night four is set to take place at the Westpoint Arena in Exeter ahead of next weekend’s UK Open in Minehead.

Luke Humphries currently tops the table after picking up one night win and reaching another final.

Lewis will be absent from the UK Open as he continues his road back to the oche after taking a break from the sport.

He is set to feature in the Modus Super Series ahead of a possible return to the PDC Tour in the future.

Meanwhile, three-time winner Wade is the 14th seed in Minehead and will enter the tournament in the fourth round.
