Virat Kohli avenges 2017 CT horror with ton against Pakistan

In the heartbreaking final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, Kohli only managed to score 5 runs before he was sent packing by Amir. Not that Virat had had a bad tournament back then. He managed to score 258 runs in that edition of CT with three half-centuries to his name. However, he finished as the 5th highest run-getter of the tournament with no centuries to his name. To add salt to the wound, India were handed an embarrassing 180-run defeat by Pakistan who went on to lift the Trophy.

Cut to 2025, Virat Kohli successfully avenged that miserable performance with a fine century in Dubai. He turned back the clock to once again prove why he was still India’s best batter in a run-chase. His 100-run knock came off 111 deliveries, studded with seven fours and striking at 90.09. He reached the triple-figure mark in an emphatic manner, striking a boundary off the last delivery to seal the win for India.

And it did not stop there. His knock earned him his 5th Player of the Match award (POTM) against Pakistan. It is pertinent to point out that no other player has won more than 3 POTM awards against a single opponent in an ICC tournament. After scoring 6 hundreds in 2023, Kohli had one bad year in 2024, where he played only 3 ODIs and managed to score 58 runs in those matches.

However, in what is a good news for India, the batting maestro is back in form and will hope to carry on his momentum into the upcoming fixtures. As for his flop show in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, one can now safely say that he has gotten over it and that too in the best possible fashion.
