One of the actors who starred in the Twilight films more than one decade ago spoke up in defense of the series amid criticism that was mentioned during a recent interview.
Peter Facinelli, who played Dr. Carlisle Cullen in all five films, was asked by Yahoo Entertainment about comments that co-star Robert Pattinson made about Twilight in an interview that GQ Spain published last month.

In his interview, Pattinson acknowledged there are some people who seem “stuck on” the opinion that the series “ruined the vampire genre,” a declaration with which he disagreed. “How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy,” he told the magazine.
When asked about the various criticisms that the films have faced over the years, Facinelli told Yahoo Entertainment that he believes there are "a lot of Twi-hards that would disagree” with the idea that the movies “ruined the vampire genre.”

“I know the fan base is still pretty strong,” he added of those who celebrated the Twilight films when they were first released. The Can’t Hardly Wait actor then explained that he “always” considered the tale of Pattinson’s Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan to be “a love story set in the vampire backdrop.”
“It's like Romeo and Juliet in this vampire world and this family that's just super supportive,” said Facinelli, who played the adoptive father of Pattinson’s character.
The actor then said he believes fans “love the Cullens” because of the idea of “chosen family” that exists throughout the movies. "That kind of love and support from family and friends is what everyone wants,” he said. "So I don't think it ruined anything. I think it's apples and oranges."
The film series, which is based on the young adult novels by Stephenie Meyer, first began in 2008 with the release of Twilight. Four sequels followed: 2009’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon, 2010’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 2011’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and 2012’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
In addition to Facinelli, Pattinson and Stewart, the series starred Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, Billy Burke as Stewart’s onscreen father Charlie, and Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Green and Kellan Lutz as Pattinson’s other onscreen family members.
