After Brendan Allen once again criticized him prior to UFC Fight Night 252 on Saturday, Dricus Du Plessis pounced on his opportunity to fire back.
Allen (24-7 MMA, 12-4 UFC) suffered a unanimous decision loss to Anthony Hernandez (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) in their middleweight rematch at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. Prior to the contest, Allen tore down the resume of current UFC middleweight champion Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) and said it’s far less impressive in reality than it is on paper.
Du Plessis bit his tongue in the immediate aftermath, but it didn’t last long after the fight. Allen issued a statement following the defeat to Hernandez, which marked the first losing skid of his career. He said “who knows what’s next” now that he finds himself in an unfamiliar situation, and Du Plessis decided to add additional harm by reminding Allen that he’s further from a UFC title than ever.
“I don’t know what’s next either,” Du Plessis wrote. “But I can most certainly tell what ain’t next for a very long time.”

Du Plessis is next expected to put his 185-pound belt on the line against Khamzat Chimaev. Allen, meanwhile, will have to figure out next steps after seeing what was once a seven-fight UFC winning streak on his record to back-to-back losses.
