An investigation into drug smuggling at a Santee jail facility led to a standoff at a South Bay home after detectives took a teen-age girl into custody.
The case centers around Ernesto Villapondo, 50, and a 16-year-old girl, who are accused of taking narcotics to the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee for Zamira Bellozo, 42, and Carli Gilstrap, 31, in December, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Gilstrap has been re-arrested on multiple charges related to smuggling narcotics into a jail facility, conspiracy and child cruelty. Bellozo also faces multiple counts. She is currently in federal custody.
The juvenile, charged with smuggling narcotics into a jail facility and felony resisting, has been released to a family member.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Detention Investigations Unit suspected Villapondo drove the juvenile to Las Colinas to place the narcotics in a publicly accessible area, where Gilstrap is accused of retrieving the narcotics.
Detectives, with the assistance of personnel from the Santee Sheriff’s Station, served a search warrant on Tuesday at Villapondo’s home in National City, where they took the girl into custody.
Villapondo is accused of refusing surrender to deputies and barricading himself inside the home. The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail, Crisis Negotiation Team and a K-9 Unit were called in to assist. He was eventually arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of an ankle injury.
Detectives recovered 12 grams of methamphetamine and a gram of cocaine inside the home, officials said. While being booked into custody, Villapondo also was found to be in possession of another 1.5 grams of methamphetamine.
He faces multiple charges, including smuggling narcotics into a jail facility, felony resisting, felony threats to a peace officer, conspiracy and child cruelty.
