Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Russian company Rosatom, said that sanctions pose an obstacle to the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Egypt, “but they will not stop us.”
He pointed out that the project’s implementation is proceeding according to the planned schedule, and it is a symbol of the growing cooperation between Russia and Egypt, Izvestia reported.
“This year, this place will become the largest nuclear reactor construction site on the planet – both in terms of area and the number of people,” Likhachev told Izvestia, daily newspaper in Russia.
The Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is the first nuclear power generation plant in Egypt, and it is being built in the city of Dabaa in Matrouh Governorate on the Mediterranean coast, about 300 kilometers northwest of Cairo.
The Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant consists of four power units with a capacity of 1200 megawatts each, equipped with Russian-made VVER-1200 Generation III+ pressurized water reactors, which are the latest technology and are already implemented in projects that are currently operating successfully, with four nuclear power units of this generation in operation.
