NFL fans have spotted Chris Jones’ unusual method on a defensive play in the Super Bowl which led to injury.
The Kansas City Chiefs defender had an unorthodox method to try and stop the Philadelphia Eagles’ signature play.
Philadelphia lined up for their famous “tush push” play which has also become known as “the brotherly shove.”
The virtually unstoppable play always seems to end with quarterback Jalen Hurts gaining the yardage needed.
In this instance, he was bundled into the end zone for a touchdown in Super Bowl LIX.
New footage from the game at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana showed Jones’ attempt to stop it.
The Chiefs’ No. 95 could be seen lined up sideways on the line of scrimmage.
The method was potentially to stop any gaps in the defensive line that Hurts could have pushed through.
But it didn’t work as the Eagles scored a touchdown anyway.
And it led to an injury for Jones.
The 30-year-old was treated for a neck injury while on the sideline.
Fans were critical of Jones’ method after the clip was posted on X.
One said, “It doesn’t even make sense. How can you get leverage that way?”
Another posted, “After the play, he sprained his neck or something.
“Going to go on a WILD limb and guess we won’t see anyone trying to stop Philly with this method.”
A third wrote, “This is probably the worst thing you could do.”
While one more commented, “Didn’t he hurt his neck on this play? I wouldn’t do that again.”

He would later leave the game with a knee problem as the Chiefs were beaten.
Jones felt the emotion of the occasion in New Orleans.
He was seen on the Fox broadcast in tears during the national anthem at the Superdome.
Kansas City was beaten 40-22 by Philadelphia to dash hopes of a historic three-peat.
Last year, Jones was made the highest defensive back in NFL history with a new Chiefs contract.
He agreed a five-year deal worth $158.75 million to stay at Arrowhead Stadium.
Jones has been with the Chiefs for his entire career since being drafted in 2016.
He is a three-time Super Bowl champion and been the key defensive piece during Kansas City’s dynasty.
