    The first edition of the Champions Trophy was held in Bangladesh and was won by South Africa. Notably, this is the only ICC trophy the Proteas have won so far.     ICC Champions Trophy History & Evolution

    The first Cricket World Cup was held in 1975 and has taken place every four years since. To support cricket development in non-Test-playing nations, the ICC introduced the Champions Trophy in 1998, initially called the ICC KnockOut Trophy. It was later renamed in 2002.

    Originally a knockout tournament, it evolved into a round-robin format with knockout matches. Initially featuring all full ICC members and later including associate teams, since 2009, only the top eight ODI teams qualify. The tournament was held every two years until 2006 but switched to a four-year cycle after 2009.

    Scheduled for Pakistan in 2008, security concerns moved it to South Africa in 2009. After being scrapped in 2021, it was reinstated for 2025. England has hosted it the most, and overall, the tournament has been played in seven countries.
