Recently, Netflix has revealed its interest in bidding on the NFL’s Sunday afternoon games.

The streaming platform’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria shared the info to Puck’s John Ourand.

Currently, the Sunday afternoon slate of games is broadcast by CBS and Fox.

CBS has had the AFC package since 1998, while the NFC package has belonged to Fox since 1994.

Both broadcast deals will run through 2033.

However, the NFL has the right to lose either of those deals four years early, which is likely to happen.

If Netflix acquires the afternoon slate of games, then either Fox or CBS would be expected to receive a Sunday morning international package – a bundle that is currently in the works.

It was believed that Netflix, due to its global track record, would dabble in those waters.

During the 2024 NFL season, the streaming service broadcast the sport for the first time.

Netflix aired two Christmas Day games as they showed Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens‘ victory against the Houston Texans hours later.

It was a record-breaking day for the streamer and the NFL, as an unduplicated 65 million viewers tuned in to the two contests, per Nielsen.

The 2024 season was the first of a three-year deal for Netflix to air Christmas Day games.

Netflix has also looked to add more boxing in the future thanks to previous success.

The Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight received 108 million viewers across the globe.

The streamer, which now has a revenue of $10.2 billion, has seen more expansion in live sports in 2025.

They now have the rights to the WWE, including both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown live.

And Netflix has also acquired the Fifa World’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031.

Unfortunately for customers, the streamer announced last month they are increasing their monthly prices.

A premium plan will cost users as much as $24.99 per month.
