DENVER (KDVR) -- After a snowy weekend, more flakes and cold temperatures are expected across Colorado, leaving slick roads and potentially over a foot of snow in parts of the state.
Two Pinpoint Weather Alert Days have been issued on Monday and Tuesday due to slick Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes in Denver, more mountain snow and a potential arctic outbreak. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in effect through Tuesday morning with several extra inches expected.

Timing
Monday morning starts cold and dry in the metro, but the Pinpoint Weather team is tracking chances for some light rain and snow Monday afternoon and into the evening. Monday highs are in the upper 30s, but Denver will dip quickly below freezing this evening with a coating of snow overnight.
Meanwhile, the mountains are already seeing accumulation on Monday morning. The National Weather Service said there will be periods of heavy snow and snow squalls Monday afternoon and snow will continue to fall into Tuesday morning.
Timing of snow on Feb. 17, 2025 (NWS)Temperatures in the mountains will stay cold, especially in northeast Colorado where the NWS said an arctic airmass is moving in Monday night and staying until Thursday morning. In Denver, temperatures will stay cool but the slick conditions will melt with more sunshine late Tuesday and more into Wednesday.
Totals
The Pinpoint Weather team is expecting snow on Monday night and into Tuesday morning. In Denver, there could be about half an inch, but other parts of Colorado are expecting several inches of new snow, leaving over a foot of snow in some areas.
Expected snow totals forecast on Feb. 17, 2025 (KDVR)While only a few inches will fall, there will be near or over a foot on the back side of the foothills, near Vail along Interstate 70 and up along Rabbit Ears Pass on the way to Steamboat after the weekend storm left over a foot of snow.
What to expect
The Pinpoint Weather team doesn't expect major impacts in the metro, but in the mountains, impacts can already be felt.
Pinpoint Weather Alert Day on Feb. 17, 2025 (KDVR)On Monday morning, there were already several road closures, backups and slide offs on mountain roads, and NWS is expecting more problems through Tuesday.
NWS is expecting wind gusts of up to 50 mph with blowing snow and poor visibility over the higher passes. There will be hazardous travel conditions and NWS said drivers should use "extreme caution" if they're on the road.
FOX31 Weather: View the latest Denver forecasts, maps and radarMeanwhile, the Colorado Department of Transportation said the heavy snowfall in the central and northern mountains will bring hazardous travel, Monday night closures and heavy blowing snow in areas such as Rabbit Ears Pass, Vail, Cameron Pass and Berthoud Pass.
It will also be extremely cold on Monday and Tuesday, more so in the mountains. The plains have cold weather advisories and extreme cold warnings in effect through Thursday morning with highs in the single digits and lows in the negatives.
