Monday sunny in Charlotte ahead of possible freezing rain

(PINPOINT WEATHER) -- Monday starts the week off cold and clear as temperatures have settled into the low 30s over uptown and into the low 20s and upper teens for some of our mountain counties.

Winds will be light around the Queen City, coming in between 5 and 10 miles per hour out of the northwest. Mountain counties will be windy and blustery as winds sit between 20 and 30 miles per hour.

We’ll see a Wind Advisory for Ashe, Avery, Watauga, & Caldwell counties until noon, as wind gusts can reach as fast as 50 miles per hour at times. Be sure to hold on to your hats and be on the lookout for isolated downed trees and power outages, mainly due to the saturated ground and compromised foundation in some spots after Sunday’s storms.

Sunshine will dominate today as highs peak near 50 degrees during the peak heating hours of the day. We’ll be sunny and cool before temperatures plummet overnight heading into Tuesday.

Tuesday will start off in the low to upper 20s with mostly clear skies for the second day of the work week. Highs rebound into the low 50s as a low-pressure system tracks over the Gulf and aims towards the Carolinas.

We’ll see wet weather move in Wednesday morning as temperatures sit in the low to mid-30s. Wednesday will hover right near freezing, which will bring snow for the I-40 corridor and north and ice for the I-85 corridor. Rain will be heavy at times for our South Carolina counties as the low-pressure system responsible for the storm tracks north and east over the Carolinas.

Wednesday morning is already a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day, as we can see freezing rain and other potential travel impacts heading into mid-week. We’ll sit in the 30s for Wednesday before the 40s finish off the work week.

We’ll be clear & sunny with cool temperatures locked in from the end of the week through the weekend.

Today: Mostly Sunny & Cool. High: 50.

Tonight: Clear & Frigid. Low: 28.
