‘They have no respect,’ cries homeowner as driveway is ruined by oil company – then he was forced to take drastic action

A HOMEOWNER has been forced to take drastic action after an oil company ruined an access road into his property, making getting in and out of his home near impossible.

Jerry Frields, who lives on a farm in Robards, Kentucky, shares his land with the Robinson Engineering and Oil Company inc. – with just a single roadway leading to his property and the oil wells.

According to a report from 14 News, the lease to the land has been in place since 1928 and allows Robinson Engineering to access multiple oil and water injection wells, as well as tank facilities, located on Frields’ property.

Frields told reporters that he bought the property in 1997 and started living on it in 2007—and that the road surface was “in perfect condition” at the time.

But now, due to excessive use and the types of equipment used, much of it has become damaged and impassable.

He added: “The road is beaten down, the elevation of the road is beaten down, it can’t even drain.”

The issue, which has been ongoing for many years, has Frields and his wife seemingly at their wits end.

He said: “They promised me they would fix the road in 2013 and they’ve torn it all up.

“They have no respect for your property whatsoever, they have no respect for anybody.”

Frields says the situation is adding stress to his life, not least because of his age and his wife’s medical needs.

He said: “My wife has Alzheimer’s and I’m afraid that right now an ambulance might not be able to get through if I have to call one for her.

    “It’s elder abuse.”

Things have escalated to a point now where Frields is taking matters into his own hands – by blocking the road and refusing to allow Robinson Engineering trucks to enter the property.

He says Robinson Engineering has a responsibility to fix the road, and he’ll continue blocking it until it’s repaired.

He said: “It’s hard on me and my wife to have to deal with this. I’m not going to fix it myself; they tore it up, they’re going to fix it. It’s that simple.”

Naturally, the local authorities have since gotten involved, with Henderson County Sheriff Chip Stauffer claiming Frields called the Sheriff’s department to alert them of the situation.

A Henderson County deputy later reviewed the roadway and referred Frields to the court system as there is no criminal wrongdoing, calling this a civil matter.

In a statement, Robinson Engineering said: “At this time, I can confirm that a civil dispute, with Mr. Jerry Frields was brought to my attention on February 12, 2025.

“The dispute surrounds our right of ingress and egress to access Robinson Engineering’s operating oil wells, water injection wells, and tank facilities which are located on the property of Mr. Frields.

“The subject oil and gas lease, known as the Warren Wilson Lease has been in continuous operation since the lease was originally executed in 1928, long before Mr. Frields’ ownership of the property.

“While we are certainly disappointed in Mr. Frields’ malicious actions, we are not surprised as this has been a recurring issue over the last 10 to 15 years.

“Robinson Engineering will be seeking legal remedy through the Henderson County Courts, and I look forward to a swift decision enforcing our right of ingress and egress.”
