And it will include Chicago Bears Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham.

— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 15, 2025Pelissero name checks Ian Cunningham, Green Bay Packers Vice President of Player Personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan, and Jacksonville Interim GM Ethan Waugh as candidates who are lined up to interview next week. Cunningham completed his first interview on Friday. One day later, he is being requested for another round of discussions with the Jaguars. Good for him!
Ian Cunningham gets another interview with the Jaguars
Ian Cunningham has interviewed for general manager positions with the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans (twice) since joining the Bears as the team’s assistant general manager in 2022. Unfortunately, for Cunningham, the interviewing team has gone in a different direction and hired a different candidate each time. On the bright side, Chicago’s football team has kept a valued member of its front office. Cunningham is so valuable to the Bears that he kept General Manager Ryan Poles from needlessly trading away picks in the 2024 NFL Draft to trade up to draft wide receiver Rome Odunze.
So while the chips haven’t fallen in Ian Cunningham’s favor just yet, things could be different this time around. Cunningham has been floated as a top candidate for the Jaguars’ GM position since January and the whispers have only grown in the weeks since rumors began surfacing. And they certainly aren’t going away now that he has another interview coming soon in Jacksonville.
If Ian Cunningham leaves to take the Jacksonville Jaguars general manager’s gig, the Chicago Bears will receive compensatory draft picks upon his departure. The first would come at the end of the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Another would come at the end of the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. However, if Cunningham gets passed over again, then the Bears will get to keep Poles’ right-hand man for another year. That would not be the worst outcome. And maybe there will be better gigs to go after next year. With that being said, this feels like an opportune time for Cunningham to make an exit and carve out his own path. Stay tuned.
