This candidate a top name to watch in Jaguars general manager search

Ian Cunningham is a “top name” to watch for over the next week as it pertains to the Jacksonville Jaguars general manager opening.

On Friday evening, the Jaguars announced that they had completed their first round of interviews. Next week, they will have in-person interviews with a select group of finalists and “hope” to have their new GM in place by the end of next week.

Cunningham continues to be a candidate that we hear brought up as someone to keep our eyes on. Most recently, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer was asked about Cunningham, specifically, how likely it is that he will get the Jaguars job and whether he would be interested in leaving Chicago.

    Breer had this to say:

“I do think he has real interest in the job, and would be a good hire. Definitely a top name in Jacksonville.”

These sentiments from Breer echo what ESPN’s Adam Schefter said several weeks back about Cunningham and the Jaguars’ GM opening.

Cunningham has been the Bears’ assistant GM since the 2022 season. Before that, he spent time with Philadelphia and was part of their 2017 Super Bowl team. Cunningham got his start in the Ravens’ organization working as a college scout under Ozzie Newsome.

Cunningham has been a popular candidate in the GM ranks. He’s twice been a finalist for the Tennessee opening, a finalist for Washington’s GM job, and reportedly turned down the Arizona job in 2023.
