New Take on Classic Candy Divides Fans: A ‘Mess Waiting to Happen’

When an iconic brand launches a new spin on a classic product, some feathers are bound to get ruffled.

So it came as no surprise when fans had mixed reactions to a new type of Ring Pop promising to be even messier than the original (which could already get pretty sticky).

In an Instagram post on Thursday, Feb. 13, food blogger Snackolator announced the introduction of a solid milk chocolate version of the novelty candy featuring an edible—and wearable—chocolate ring, as well as rainbow sprinkles in the 3D gem.

"You're telling me I can WEAR chocolate now?!" Snackolator wrote in the post's caption, adding, "This is going to have sprinkles inside the chocolate almost like a Cosmic Brownie look and they'll be available exclusively at Walmart starting on March 1st both online and in-store. Kind of wish this was available for Valentine's Day because what better way to propose?!"

    Snackolator's followers were skeptical.

"It gonna melt all over! And summertime. I wouldn't be surprised if this flops," wrote one person.

"I thank God every day my kids are older a mess waiting to happen," a second agreed.

"Introducing...CHAOTIC EVIL RING POP," joked another person.

"Nah this is cursed," somebody else chimed in.

Others were more open-minded about the idea.

"So fun honestly," declared one curious candy lover, with another Instagram user saying, "If I don't get proposed with this he can leave ??."

"Can’t wait to have these melting all over my fingers ??," quipped yet another fan.

Oddly enough, this might not be the first time Ring Pop has dabbled in chocolate territory.

A 2020 Instagram post from Collecting Candy shared a vintage candy ad from the '80s for a chocolate-flavored—not solid chocolate—version of the lollipop which still had the traditional plastic ring, though whether or not the treat was ever actually produced was unclear.
