The New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers, as expected, are headed to a divorce in the 2025 NFL offseason. Jets owner Woody Johnson made it official on Thursday that the team plans to move on from Rodgers, who plans to play through his age-41 season.
Rodgers started only one full season with the Jets after suffering a torn Achilles in Week 1 in the 2023 season. The Jets dropped from 7-10 to 5-12 with Rodgers starting all 17 games, and former coach Robert Saleh was fired after only five weeks.

Aaron Rodgers predictions: Best potential landing spots
1. Las Vegas Raiders
Davante Adams may go with Rodgers (again), but for now, this is a team without a real starting QB for new coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly — a combination of Aidan O’Connell, Desmond Ridder, and Gardner Minshew doesn’t count.
Rodgers and the Raiders can work with the influence of minority owner Tom Brady. Las Vegas isn’t guaranteed to get its franchise QB of choice in the first round of the draft, and Rodgers and Kelly would be an interesting, fascinating schematic experiment.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers need to make a decision on whether they want to bring back Russell Wilson and/or Justin Fields. But they could try again with a former NFC superstar QB for their bridge, knowing they can make the offensive and defensive tweaks to push a 10-7 playoff team into bigger AFC title contention.
3. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks need to decide if Geno Smith can be the right fit for the new offense under Klint Kubiak. There’s no doubt Rodgers would thrive in that version of the West Coast offense with some talented wide receivers, including Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf. Don’t sleep on the Seahawks taking a shot on an older, potential QB upgrade, with the hope that Rodgers can still push them to a higher offensive ceiling
4. New York Giants
Rodgers could keep playing games in MetLife Stadium should the Giants prefer not to draft Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders early in the first round. Rodgers could work well with Brian Daboll because of his strong arm and mobility, plus young offensive skill players such as Malik Nabers, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Theo Johnson.
5. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts are a bit of a wild card but make sense with offensive-minded Shane Steichen as their head coach. They are on the fence about Anthony Richardson as a franchise QB and might want to take a swing at Rodgers without a high-enough draft pick.
